Position Title: M.S. Graduate Research Assistantship
Responsibilities: Seeking highly motivated student to conduct research on the relationships between aquatic habitat (water) quality, harmful algal blooms, and the health of aquatic biota. Duties include field sampling, water sample analysis, and data analysis and interpretation. Multiple short term travel to field sites is required. Project background: Student will work under the auspices of federally funded study of the Pecos River, New Mexico and Texas. Specific objectives are to determine the spatiotemporal distribution of an invasive algal species (golden alga) and its association with spatiotemporal variation in water quality. The goal is to suggest tenable water quality management standards for control of golden alga, which is a threat to aquatic organisms in the Pecos River, including several species of concern. The information obtained also may be applicable to other river basins in Texas and in an increasing number of states where toxic blooms of golden alga are being reported.
Qualifications: B.S. in any area of natural resources management or related biological field; ability to work independently and as member of research team. Applicants must meet admission requirements of Graduate School and Department of Natural Resources Management
